Newfield School is celebrating a significant milestone after receiving a positive outcome under Ofsted’s new inspection framework alongside its strongest GCSE results since before the pandemic.
Inspectors awarded the school a Strong Standard for both Attendance and Behaviour and Inclusion, recognising the significant progress made in recent years. The report praised the school’s warm and caring relationships, high expectations and inclusive culture, highlighting how pupils feel known, supported and valued.
The positive inspection outcome comes alongside exceptional GCSE results, with Newfield School achieving its highest Attainment 8 score under the current measures at 52.67.
Outcomes for disadvantaged pupils were particularly impressive. Their Attainment 8 score increased by more than 13 points, while the proportion achieving a grade 5 or above in both English and maths rose by 30 percentage points. Half of disadvantaged pupils achieved a grade 5 or above in maths, representing a 35 percentage point increase on the previous year.
The school also celebrated strong achievements across the year group, with 61% of pupils achieving a grade 5 or above in English and maths, and 37 pupils averaging a grade 7 or higher across all subjects.
Ruth Hollingsworth, Headteacher at Newfield School, said:
“This report recognises the tremendous journey Newfield has been on and reflects what our pupils, staff and families experience every day. We are especially proud that this recognition comes alongside our strongest GCSE outcomes in recent years and the significant progress made by disadvantaged pupils.
“These achievements are a testament to the dedication of our staff, the commitment of our pupils and the support of our families.”
Neil Miley, Chief Executive Officer of Mercia Learning Trust, said:
