Local Chair - King Ecgbert
Karen has been the Chair of Governors at King Ecgbert School since September 2019, having previously been a Parent Governor since 2017.
For Karen, being the Chair of Governors involves a wide range of duties. She has regular meetings with the head about school improvement and development plans to ensure that we maintain KES high standards. She also attends student behaviour point meetings, exclusion meetings, and staff pay reviews within school. Being part of a trust, she must attend meetings with the CEO and chair to find out and contribute to discussions around development of the school and trust. She really enjoys being one part of the team helping to ensure our children get the best possible education, and she'd encourage anyone considering volunteering as a governor to find out more as it can be very rewarding.
She believes in honesty and open communication: "it is easy to criticise, so when I disagree with something I like to explain why and offer a different opinion/ solution. Team work is essential and by being part of a team means its easy to ask questions – there is never a stupid question and as governors we should never be afraid to ask."
As a parent of 2 sporty teenagers, Karen spends quite a bit of time as a taxi service, but also enjoys playing hockey on a Saturday during the autumn/winter months. For work she manage the family dental practice, which allows her the flexibility to be able to come into school as required.
