Welcome from CEO
Chris French, CEO of Mercia Learning Trust.
We are an ambitious, forward thinking and successful partnership of six schools, 3 primary and 3 secondary, located in the south and southwest of Sheffield. We are growing, and currently responsible for the education and wellbeing of close to 4500 students aged 2-18, and employ over 550 staff.
Our trust is local in that our primary schools are direct feeders into our secondary schools, and none is further than 2 miles from another.
We are driven by a shared trust mission that states — ‘Working as individual schools, and in partnership, our singular intention is to ensure every pupil, whatever their background, will attend an exceptional school. We believe pupils should enjoy school, feel safe and fully supported, be inspired to learn, develop character and aspiration, and realise their full potential. We are so committed to pupil success and well-being that we choose to think of every pupil we serve as if they are our own, and to measure our actions and impact against this’
The statement, “Realising Potential. Transforming Lives.”, summarises this commitment.
We describe our approach to partnership working as aligned autonomy. Our first principle is that each school is unique, has its own distinct identity, and is configured to meet the needs of its local community. That schools are led by headteachers, and their local governing body, and are individually strong.
Working for the trust also brings real benefits for staff. Access to great practice, outstanding CPD and accelerated career progression. We also have a comprehensive strategy to support staff wellbeing that goes beyond what conventional schools can offer.
In conclusion the trust provides the structure within which dedicated and talented staff work together, at every level, to ensure we provide the very best for every child in our care.
